Is Pinterest automation against terms of service?
No. Pinterest explicitly allows automation through its official API. What's prohibited is unauthorized automation — browser bots, scraping, fake engagement, and tools that don't go through approved channels.
The distinction Pinterest cares about is whether automation happens through its developer platform or around it. The platform was built to support business users who need to schedule and bulk-publish — that's why the API exists.
What's allowed
- Scheduling pins to your own boards via approved tools
- Bulk uploading from a CSV, sitemap, or RSS feed
- Using third-party schedulers that have Pinterest API access
- AI-generated pin images and copy
- Cross-posting your own content across multiple boards
What's not allowed
- Browser automation that puppets the Pinterest UI directly
- Fake repins, likes, comments, or follower bots
- Scraping pins from other users to repost as your own
- Running multiple accounts coordinated to manipulate reach
- Tools that don't use Pinterest's official API
If you're using a mainstream scheduler — Tailwind, Later, Planoly, Buffer, Hootsuite, Supapin, or similar — you're inside the API and inside the rules. The same goes for AI image and text generation: Pinterest permits AI content as long as the platform's broader content policies are followed.
